If you've been to high school (or professional, for that matter) football or basketball games, this title might be familiar to you. Though I don't believe that this particular cheer may resound in the halls of academia in Rome tomorrow, there will definitely be many prayers sent up to heaven with a similar fervor.
It is customary that in the acquisition of a degree as a Doctor in some area that one writes a Dissertation, which is reviewed. The reviewers then draw up questions and pelt them at the doctoral candidate for hours on end... or something like that. Well, our very own Fr. Andrew Cozzens is defending his doctoral thesis/dissertation in Rome today, Tuesday, around 11:00 am CST, if I've heard correctly. The title of his Doctoral Thesis is Christ, an Image of the Bridegroom of the Church, as Expressed in the Evangelical Counsels of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience.
A few of his brother priests have traveled to Rome to support him, and to witness him squirm in his chair as he attempts to best answer the questions and objections raised to his paper. The deacons, too, will be fortunate enough to witness this spectacle.
Assuredly, any prayers offered for his sake will be of great benefit to our aspiring Father. St. Thomas Aquinas, intercede for him!
