Life without the Deacons

While the deacons have been living it up in Rome, Theology III remains behind to pick up the slack. It is typically the work of the deacons (they are ordained for service after all) to set out the food for weekend breakfasts, to provide refreshments for Sunday evening socials, to expose and repose the Blessed Sacrament as the community gathers for prayer in the morning, and to lead the community as we sanctify the day in our communal recitations of the Liturgy of the Hours. With the deacons absent, it has fallen to my class to serve in those functions. While it is a sort of jolt to have these new responsibilities, I think we are enjoying it. It is a sort of sneak-peek at what diaconal ministry is like. So, as they are gallivanting about, praying at the tombs of saints, and eating well, we remain behind. I suppose that it would be only honest to admit that a small twinge of envy has entered my heart, but hey, we are having our own sort of adventure.
