Rain, rain keeps falling on my head

It’s a rainy day here in the Eternal City. Some of my classmates and I went to the 10:00 am mass at Saint Peter’s this morning. After mass we dispersed our separate ways. I ran into an SPS alum, Matt Kuhn, who was giving a tour to some visitors, so we didn’t have time to talk. Speaking of running into people, I also had the occasion to run into a friend that I haven’t seen in a couple of years at Saint Paul Outside the Wall. He’s a seminarian for the Divine Word Missionary Fathers (SVD). He's here visiting his congregation’s mother house. It’s one of the great things about being in Rome, you get to catch up with old friends in unexpected places.

Getting back to my story, after mass, I met a seminarian from the North American College (NAC) and had a great conversation with him. I also met the second reader for tomorrow's mass who is also from the NAC. After leaving Saint Peter's, I went over to the pope’s preferred religious goods shop, Euroclero. Did I mentioned that the weakness of the US dollar is just killing us? So I did a lot of looking but no buying.

After lunch and a little nap, one of my classmates and I braved the pouring rain and went off to another religious goods shop. Much to our surprise, the shop closed at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. So, to get out of the rain, we then jumped on a bus that we knew would eventually get us back to the Domus. Almost an hour later, it did drop us off. Some might say that that was a wasted afternoon. I prefer to call it an unplanned distraction.

P.S. Still waiting on euros from home... must have gotten lost in transit. Please send more, pronto!

We were the blessed family whom Matt Kuhn led the best tour though St. Peter's Basilica! He spent nearly two hours with us that morning - so much to take in, I will never forget it! Our son Kevin (3rd year SJV studying there this fall semester) showed us around the rest of Rome - unbelievable churches, history, transportation, and food. Have an excellent time in Rome! (I didn't know how fortunate we were with the ticket machines - we used them exclusively without losing our credit card.)

Enjoy your trip to Naples this Saturday with the Bernardians. I can't wait to read more of your blogs!
