The Sacred Congregation for Bishops

We just returned from our first visit to a Congregation of the Holy See: The Sacred Congregation for Bishops. The Prefect is Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re.

We met with staff member Monsignor Baker from Allentown, PA, who gave us an overview of the arrangement of Congregations and their purpose in assisting the Holy Father in his Petrine Ministry.

We also met with the Secretary, Archbishop Francesco Monterisi, who spoke with us about many things, the most important duty being that of assisting the Pope in choosing men to appoint as bishops.

This Congregation's reach lies only within dioceses of the Latin Rite which are not classified as "missionary status."
